Safety and Equipment
What we do
- All rides are led by an experienced leader, following a GPS route shared beforehand.
- We ask you for an emergency contact number at the start of the ride.
- We don’t drop anyone and accompany new riders back to the start, if required.
What we ask of you
- Please check your bike before the ride (see Bikes and Equipment)
- Please listen to any safety briefing provided at the start.
- Please provide an emergency contact number to the leader.
- All riders should ride considerately and alert others to potholes, obstacles and overtaking cars.
- If you decide to leave the ride before the end, please tell the leader or someone else in the group.
Bikes and Equipment
You can use any roadworthy bike on our rides. A Road, Touring, Hybrid or Gravel bike is usually ideal, or an MTB or Gravel bike for an offroad ride. A good range of gears is advisable for hilly stretches.
Please check your bike’s brakes, tyres and chain lubrication before every ride.
We recommend you bring:
- Basic tools: including pump, spare tube and puncture repair kit.
- Lights: A rear light is a good idea at any time of year. Front and rear lights are essential in winter.
- Water bottle: ideally a cycling bottle in a bottle cage.
- A GPS device or map.
Before the Ride: Checklist
- If you are new to our group, please contact the ride leader, Rides Secretary or Ladies’ Rep beforehand for advice (see Rides Calendar or Contact Us).
- Please check your brakes, tyres and chain lubrication and look at our advice on Bikes and Equipment.
- Please bring something to drink, money for the café stop, an energy bar and a waterproof jacket if needed.
- Consider joining our email group to receive ride updates (see Contact Us).
